A Klystron electron gun shell mid braze in the push-thru wet hydrogen furnace. This is a copper braze to join kovar to alumina-ceramic at 1083 Celsius. If you look closely there is a "flag" (piece of copper wire) in front of the gun stack. When this melts away, the appropriate temperature has been obtained. After a three minute soak, the piece is pushed to a cooling zone.

This is the klystron electrin gun shell in the brazing fixture prior to its trip through the wet hydrogen furnace. The green pieces are to align the ceramic spacers. The copper braze washers can be seen between the ceramic and the kovar rings.

Don't be complacent thinking that disconnecting the air supply at the valve and attaching a device to the air line itself is actually complying with the OSHA Standard. If the air supply fitting on the valve can have another air-line attached - it ain't locked out! During commissioning and elastomer replacements on retrofit projects, I've seen too many incidents where another airline was, in fact, inadvertently connected to the supposedly "locked-out" valve and it was opened when it shouldn't have been.Pharmaceutical and chemical plants across the nation, especially here in the Triangle, are adopting the AirSafe lockouts.www.scalarnc.com

For almost three years, I've proudly served as a partner at Pendulum Electromagnetics, Inc. Each day brings fresh experiences and valuable lessons, ranging from smooth sailing to challenging hurdles, yet always fascinating. It might seem unconventional to embark on a significant career transition after a 35-year journey in industrial construction. However, this venture feels like a seamless continuation of my life-long experiences. From electronics and controls to utility piping systems to intricate high-tech brazing with precious metal alloys, I find myself drawing upon my decades of experience with each passing day. This video is just a small peek into the world of High Powered Microwave frequency electronics and Traveling Wave Tubes.https://lnkd.in/gSu2X8GZ

Just by coincidence, after over a thousand heat cycles, I ran across this "first test" video of our RF brazing unit, affectionately known as "the bomber."It's called that because it's containment bell is purged with hydrogen gas. Careful purge monitoring is required to prevent spontaneous ignition should the hydrogen concentration fall below the HEL (higher explosive limit). In this test run, the containment bell had not been installed, so there was no purge. The part was a scrap tube, so there was no need to purge since we were only testing the heating function of the Ultraflex RF unit.

If you have a large outage project coming up that involves air-controlled zero-static valves, consider the AirSafe lockout devices. Positive lockout of the valve - not the airline. The competitive "scissors" locking device only locks the air line itself and does not prevent connection to the valve. In a one-off situation like maintenance, that's typically not a problem. However, in a large project setting, it can be a serious, often overlooked hazard, especially if the commissioning group runs temporary tubing to stroke valves.Made in North Carolina of all USA-sourced parts, the AirSafe locking device is fast becoming the preferred standard in the Pharma industry.
